Over the many years that I have done Weight Watchers there was always the weekly ritual. The weigh in. The terrifying moment when I had to face my worst fears and step on the scale to see how I did. There were times when it was a pleasant surprise. Other times confirmation on how I did. But, more often than not it was a total mystery! I did everything I was supposed to do. I followed the plan to a tee. How could my weight have gone up? After the meeting I would go home that replay the week. What did I eat? What did I drink? What do I need to do differently?
When the weight went down, I would “treat” myself to a special meal or snack. Hey, I deserved it! I did good!!
However, I felt like a complete failure when the weight went up. Don’t even talk to me about when it went up two weeks in a row!!! I reached a point when I would ask myself; why am I doing this to myself? Why am I even going through this and not seeing any results? So…I would quit!
So the question that I ask myself is; is it better to weigh myself daily or weekly? The answer to that for me is…daily! It always me to keep check on how I am doing. Weight for me comes back very quickly. This keeps me honest and on track. If there are any sudden spikes I take action immediately. I don’t want the weight to get out of hand. I don’t want to lose sight of the fact that I am doing this for my health. I need to keep tracking in a downward direction.

Today’s Weight – 346.5 / YTD Loss – 11.5
Chia is a magical little seed. I learned that yesterday. You have to be careful with this though. It sneaks up and surprises you.
Yesterday I made myself a smoothie and poured it into 2 16oz glasses. Then I added 3 tablespoons (tbsp) of chia seeds to each. As my friend Dawne advised “let them sit for 10 minutes to allow them to gel”. Well I let them sit for almost an hour before I drank one of them. Well when I tried to take that first sip I nearly burst an eardrum! It reminded me of the thickness of a McDonald’s Milk Shake! It was thick…really thick! But boy was it filling. My breakfast smoothie held me until lunch with zero cravings!
My afternoon smoothie was even worse. The concoction in the glass had pretty much turned into a sludge! Think Play-doh! Well I managed to choke that one down too. Needless to say I learned a valuable lesson. In a 16 oz glass, DON’T put in 3 Tbsp of Chia!!
Today, I only put in 1 Tbsp in each glass of smoothie! Much better!!

Mondays are always a new beginning. Forget what missteps I took over the weekend. Today is the first day of the rest of my life…again! I got some sad news today. I co-worker who was one week away from retiring, died over the weekend from a heart attack. How sad is that? It made me realize that have a work life balance is key and that eating and exercising is NOT, I repeat, NOT an option!!! I have to do this to get my health back in check and to live a long and happy life. As a friend of mine once said “we do this so that we can sit up straight in our wheelchair!”.
Here’s to a great week.

(I’m going to change my closing line starting today. Losing a large amount of weight is not small feat. As the expression goes “How do you eat an elephant? One toe at a time!” Therefore my new closing will be “One toe at a time!”)
